Hi, it’s me!
Been a while, I know. Since I last updated, I’ve had a baby (!), finished writing and editing my first historical biography (‘Edward VI: Henry VIII’s Overshadowed Son’), and completed the first draft of my summer 2023 release, BY DESIGN. It’s been a busy year.
I am thrilled to share with you that, after a very busy year of planning and writing this story (among other things), it’s so close to being ready to publish. I think I started writing this manuscript in February 2022, then left off around mid-June (had my baby in July!), and didn’t pick it up again until this January! Once I realized I was only months away from my goal publication timeframe – which, for the past two years has been May/June – I lit a fire under my own @$$ and got to writing.
It was a fun challenge, actually. I learned that if I really set my mind to it and push through the struggle of ‘too little time’, ‘writer’s block’, and ‘I just don’t wanna’, I can actually write ~50,000 words of a novel in about three weeks. That’s how long it took me to write half of this manuscript, and you can imagine the celebratory glass of wine I enjoyed once I typed those final words.
Now, the first draft of BY DESIGN is in the hands of two of my lovely editing friends, who have helped me out with my previous two novels. They are sending me feedback on pesky little errors and typos that I overlooked during the writing (and quick editing) process. Once they’re finished and I’ve made those corrections, I’ll be handing the manuscript off to my husband. He’s the best proofreader I know, and he will help me put the finishing touches on book 2 before I send it off to my designer for formatting!
And on that note, I’ve enlisted the help of the amazing Natalie Keller Reinert once again, who has designed my beautiful covers for WILD HEARTS (2021) and GOOD BONES (2022). Yet again, she’s shown me that she’s the absolute right choice for my cover artwork, because the design she’s working on for BY DESIGN is perfect! Very shortly, I’ll be sharing that cover with you.
